Stella Alpina Reloaded 2025 - The Story

Stella Alpina Reloaded picks up and renews the important legacy of Mario Artusio’s original idea, which he imagined 57 editions ago. Today, just like then, the Stella Alpina takes place in an Alpine setting that is truly unique: the Rochemolles Valley, along the highest drivable road in Europe - an environment of incomparable beauty, unmatched anywhere in the world.

The community of Bardonecchia’s citizens and all its friends have welcomed the idea of reimagining the Stella Alpina as a gathering that, in some way, tells the story of simple life, love, and respect for our mountains and our deepest-rooted traditions. We are a genuine community, made up above all of simple human beings, and as such we are each in our own way sensitive to the events that affect our small territory.

Not long ago, we lost Riccardo - a young man who left us far too soon. Son of Annalisa and Vittorio, brother of Alessandro. Riccardo and his family taught us the quiet dignity of that silence which only the mountains can offer to those who know how to listen.

That’s why it felt natural for us, the citizens of Bardonecchia, to come together in the shared desire to bring Riccardo back with us to the Sommeiller. Any amount exceeding the basic costs needed to organise this moment of peace will be donated to the foundation “Il coraggio dei Bambini – Gli Occhi di Riccardo” (“The Courage of Children – Riccardo’s Eyes”).

We are very protective of our Mountain - it’s our life - so we kindly ask you to enter this valley on tiptoe, respecting a marvellous place that we are happy to share with you, as long as you understand its value and honour every single stone and blade of grass.

A bank account of a Third Sector Association will also be provided, in case any of you wish to make an additional donation.

We will do our best to welcome you - we ask that you do your best to honour this important gesture of opening the doors of our home to you.

Update source: Stella Alpina Reloaded facebook

The Bardonecchia–Rochemolles–Sommeiller mountain road is open. You can go up even before the official Stella Alpina Reloaded day.

Free camping will be allowed near the Scarfiotti refuge, as in previous years (note: the refuge is closed this year for renovation works).

There will be no motorcycle blessing this year; it is planned to return next year.

To help cover the event’s organisational costs, a €35 participation fee is required. For the first 200 registered participants, this includes:

  • Official event T-shirt

  • Stella Alpina Reloaded silicone wristband

  • Official Stella Alpina Reloaded sticker

  • Transit fee for the Rochemolles–Sommeiller road

  • “With Riccardo’s Eyes” patch

After covering organisational expenses, all proceeds will be donated to the charity “Con gli occhi di Riccardo – Il coraggio dei Bambini” (more info at www.ilcoraggiodeibambini.com and on Facebook at Fondazione Il Coraggio dei Bambini).

Online registration will open on Tuesday, July 2, via a link we will share once it is approved by the authorities.

You will be able to collect your kit at the Bardonecchia Tourist Office (Piazza Valle Stretta – Palazzo delle Feste) or near the Scarfiotti refuge.

The Proloco Bardonecchia volunteer association will provide food and drinks on Saturday near the Scarfiotti refuge.

A special limited-edition commemorative pin will be available for purchase by the first 100 registered participants at the highest point accessible by vehicle, starting from 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

UPDATE - 27.06.2025

Update source: Torino Tourism Office

  • You will be able to pitch your tent wherever you wish in the Rochemolles Valley as early as Friday evening.

  • We do not recommend placing it on the left bank of the dam as it is subject to the danger of falling rocks.

  • The cost is € 8.00 per day per moto

  • However, there will be the possibility for the first 200 interested to purchase a "souvenir package" at the price of € 35.00 with various gadgets.

  • It will be possible to book the package online, but we do not yet know the link.

  • It will also be possible to purchase gadgets individually at the Tourist Office or at the toll booth.

UPDATE - 26.06.2025

Update source: Bob Lane, a long-standing UK contact for the original Stella Alpina Rally.

The information below follows a recent conversation with the Vice Mayor of Bardonecchia regarding the upcoming 'Stella Alpina Reloaded' event.

  • Please note this recent conversation did not involve the organiser; the Vice Mayor is not the organiser.

  • The Italian authorities have introduced strict conditions for events like this, including safety, rescue, healthcare, and participant registration requirements.

  • These conditions made it difficult to find someone willing to organise the event, which explains the long delay in updates.

  • A new organiser has now stepped forward and created an 'Official' Facebook page:
    👉 Stella Alpina Reloaded

  • Unfortunately, as the Facebook page that was created only very recently and with limited followers, it hasn’t been able to spread the word widely and has lacked details.

What I Understand About the Event:

  • The official event will be held on Saturday, 12 July 2025, from 1pm to 8pm only.

  • There will be a participation fee of €30 - €35, which includes a commemorative shirt, a wristband, and possibly food.

  • A commemorative badge might be available to purchase separately, but this has not been confirmed.

  • Camping at Rifugio Scarfiotti will be available free of charge from the Friday.

  • The track to Rifugio Scarfiotti will close on the Thursday before the event, but will be open on the days following.

  • Definitive details on track access beyond Rifugio Scarfiotti (e.g. to Colle del Sommeiller) has not been confirmed.

  • Definitive details on toll road hours above Rochemolles is not known, but assumed to be similar to recent years.

  • There will be no ‘Blessing of the bikes’ at the church in Bardonecchia this year.

  • With the event scheduled for the Saturday only, the indication is that it will not be possible to purchase commemorative merchandise on the mountain on Sunday - you will need to get to Rifugio Scarfiotti on the Saturday to obtain these.

Clearly:

  • This year’s format is very different from past years.

  • In my view, the limited hours and structure of the event are a direct result of the strict conditions imposed by the authorities.
