Code of Conduct
Stella Alpina Reloaded 2025

The Stella Alpina is NOT a competition.

Driving on high mountain dirt roads requires knowledge and respect for a few simple rules, based on experience and common sense, as understood by those who live in and know these places deeply.
Failure to observe these basic rules may endanger not only the person who disregards them but also those who may be accidentally involved — not to mention the risks that rescuers must take on to provide their valuable assistance.

Above all, one must show absolute respect for nature in all its forms — nature that so generously rewards us in these places with priceless views.

We must all remember, when travelling through natural landscapes — and in this case, through the Rochemolles Valley along the road from Bardonecchia to the Colle del Sommeiller — that we are simply guests.

The first section of the road, from Bardonecchia to Rochemolles, is paved but narrow, and often features blind corners. It is therefore important to behave as follows:

-
Drive at low speed
-
Never cut corners in any way
-
Keep strictly to the right
-
Give right of way to uphill vehicles
-
Signal your presence with a horn when approaching blind bends

The second section of the road, from Rochemolles to the Colle del Sommeiller (3009 meters above sea level), begins at the small historic village of Rochemolles and climbs to the summit.

This stretch is entirely unpaved and has no barriers or guardrails between the road surface and the adjacent slopes (which can be steep cliffs). The road surface varies greatly, from pure dirt to compact cobblestone with sharp stones. As you gain elevation, the tall and medium-height vegetation disappears, often causing sudden and dangerous changes in visibility even on clear days.

In addition to the previous rules, the following must also be observed:

-
Once on the dirt road, further reduce your speed and increase the distance between vehicles to avoid kicking up too much dust, which could prevent those behind you from maintaining full control of the situation
-
Do not take shortcuts between bends, even if they seem accessible; such paths are typically made by pedestrians, livestock, or authorised vehicles
-
Always wear safety gear and ensure your vehicle is insured and in safe operating condition, with fully functioning lights and tires, and a clearly visible license plate
-
Certain areas will be strictly off-limits, marked with clearly visible tape and signage. Do not enter these areas under any circumstances, even on foot: they are protected for environmental and safety reasons

In case of any doubt, numerous staff members from the organisation will be present and available to offer advice or assistance at any time.

That’s all.

Enjoy the Stella Alpina Reloaded 2025!
